Boy does that song capture the moment of uncertainty that we’re facing now and the choices we get to make about how we show up and where we choose to put our energy. Also ironic to be reminded how we’ve faced similar challenges in the past and risen to the occasion.

My book launch events introducing So, What Do You Do? The Authentic Alchemy Path and companion Workbook were fun and engaging (you can check out some highlights here). It was great to get people’s feedback and reactions to my work.

It was so interesting for me to see where people are at and as always, I’m grateful for your input. I was struck by one friend’s surprisingly honest comment. She’d started reading the book thinking she was ready for change, but recognized she wasn’t ready to do the work and needed to stay where she was for a while. (Cue another powerful song, Coast by Gone Gone Beyond & Moontricks). Wow! I was impressed by her self-awareness and the reality that timing is so important.

Not everyone is ready for change. Ain’t that the truth! We may talk a good game and try to convince ourselves and others that we want things to be different (how many times have you heard or said this yourself?). Maybe we’re unhappy and realize we need to shake things up, but when push comes to shove, we’re just not ready to act differently. We need to honor our experience and what we feel.

Maybe we’re actually comfortable where we are and don’t want to push a growing edge that would be a stretch and we’ve got too much on our plates already. I completely get it. Change is inherently uncomfortable! We don’t like uncertainty and not being able to know what will happen. And with all the chaos in the world, I can understand the desire for some calm.

Don’t Bury the Lead!

I’m not going to lie, I’m invested in supporting people who want to change because that’s my mission – to help conscious leaders create a better, more caring and sustainable world – the one we actually want to live in. And I’m just going to say it – if you want to create change, then you need to OWN IT!

To earn more, get promoted, launch your own business or pivot professionally in any way requires you to take action. You need to do the INNER work of clarifying what you want and clear out what may be holding you back, so you can move forward from a place of wholeness, then do the INTERPERSONAL work of connecting with others and communicating your desires and the OUTER work of putting yourself out there and demonstrating your abilities.

This type of “work”, while sometimes challenging, isn’t always hard. But it is necessary and it can be uncomfortable to expand beyond our known boundaries as we venture into the unknown – that place of our becoming. We can’t really know what awaits us and what challenges we might confront. Yet, we need to be willing to face our fears and stand in our desires, so we can show up fully with some vulnerability to acknowledge that we’re no longer satisfied and want something new.

I recognize that not everyone is ready for this work. I also know it can make a difference to have support and mentorship so we don’t need to go through changes on our own.
