There’s been a lot going on
I was considering radio silence this week, but decided to give you all a sneak peek into what I’ve been up to lately. I wanted to share a quick update with much more to follow. My book is proceeding and it has been a big adventure, watching it evolve and transform before my eyes. Writing and going through the editing and publishing process is changing me more than I might have imagined.
Here are some of the cool things I’ve been learning about myself in the process of creating something new. These lessons seem directly related to the book’s purpose – which is to help you find your path
- Data dump: My first step was to get all my thoughts out and down on paper. This was an ongoing process of outlining and refining my approach and considering what information was most important. What was I hoping to convey and why?
- Manuscript (First Draft): This critical first milestone was completing the full book, which happened back in May. While I thought that would be the hardest part (and it was quite an accomplishment), little did I realize that was just the beginning of my process.
- Feedback: While it was scary and vulnerable to open the kimono so to speak, it was important for me to start getting input from others. I asked a small group of pilot readers for some initial impressions of the book. While most of the comments were positive, I also received constructive suggestions for how to make things even better. I am grateful for the gracious way I was given criticism and my own ability to receive it (not so easy since I was very close to the material).
- Updates (Second Draft): Things started getting real as I incorporated and am still making multiple updates to enhance the flow and structure of the content.
- Clarity: Deciding what matters! This is where I have been making ongoing choices about the book’s focus, style and purpose. Lots of introspection around who this is for and how best to bring the work into the world. This is the ongoing process that I’m in right now as I must make decisions about how best to move forward.
- Market research: This was one of the most interesting aspects of my process. I had created multiple iterations of the book title and cover design (through mock-ups) and it was time for me to start testing. I had gotten many initial impressions from friends, but decided I needed to get out of my bubble. I shared the top 3 choices in a blind survey to get outsider input. And we have a winner….. It was fascinating to see where I ended up and the evolution of the book over time. It was clear that the voters had an obvious favorite, and not necessarily what I expected. Just goes to show that you can’t always know what will resonate with others, but asking is one sure way to find out.
I would like to introduce my chosen book title (though the book itself is not yet ready for release)…..
SO, WHAT DO YOU DO?
The Authentic Alchemy Path to Find Who You Are
I will be sharing an 8-step framework, the Authentic Alchemy Path, to guide you to more purpose, meaning and fulfillment. The guidebook includes exercises, practices, rituals, stories and mythical references to help you find more clarity and will hopefully be the last career book you will ever need. You will come to know yourself so that you can discover and do your work in the world with intention and excitement.
I can’t wait to share more with you as I get ready to publish in the coming months!
“As above, so below.”
(Ancient Hermetic expression)
Going through any discovery and change process is all about finding out more about ourselves. We’re embarking on a journey of transformation. As I shared above, doing our work in the world and uncovering our life path is a process – of learning, growth and discovery. Understanding yourself and making meaning from all your choices.
I’m looking forward to revealing more as things progress, so stay tuned.
